Double-tunnel breakthrough for Pyrmont’s new metro station!
🔩 Sydney Metro West Tunnel Breakthrough
TBMs Ruby and Jessie have broken through into Pyrmont Station cavern as part of the Eastern Tunnelling Package a John Holland, CPB, and Ghella JV. Once complete, the metro will double rail capacity between Parramatta and the CBD. Learn more here.
🛫 CPB’s Paving Milestone at Western Sydney Airport
CPB Contractors completed Australia’s first slip-form aircraft pavement pour on the WSI Airside project using in-house batch plants and a modified concrete mix. Project Manager Hassan Ghonaim says the method is now being applied on the WSI Cargo Precinct and could reshape future aviation work. Learn more here.
🏆 John Holland Shortlisted for 2025 ACAA
Two projects Sydney Gateway and the Pakenham Level Crossing Removal are finalists for the Australian Construction Achievement Awards. Both projects demonstrate high complexity and public impact. A legacy continuation, with past wins in 2022 (Sydney Metro), 2014, 2009, and 2006. Learn more here.
🛣 Georgiou Lands Reid Highway Contract
Main Roads WA has appointed Georgiou to deliver the Reid Highway Interchanges project, including upgrades to major intersections at Altone Road and Drumpellier Drive. The work is jointly funded by state and federal governments and targets improved freight and cyclist access in Perth’s northeast. Learn more here.
🚧 Eire Constructions Wraps $900K Forster Job
Eire delivered a 9-week job for MidCoast Council covering 1km of road upgrades, new stormwater infrastructure, and pavement remediation. Completed on time, on budget, and with zero safety issues a strong case study for well-executed local infrastructure delivery. Learn more here.

⚠️ QLD Productivity Body Slams Procurement Red Tape
The Queensland Productivity Commission has called for the permanent removal of BPICs, blaming them for a 9% drop in construction productivity since 2018. With Brisbane 2032 fast approaching, the report warns Olympic infrastructure and housing delivery targets are now in jeopardy unless red tape is scrapped.

🚫 $20M Waterproof Pavement Tech Blocked by QLD Transport
Polypave International claims its ultra-waterproof road tech (750x more resistant than standard pavement) has been stonewalled by QLD’s Department of Transport. The company may move its $20M facility offshore, blaming a lack of willingness to trial or adopt innovative materials.
