👋Welcome to The Civil Debrief!
Welcome to 8th Edition of The Civil Debrief!
First off, we apologise. We missed publishing last week, but for a good reason: the launch of Delaysolve, our new platform helping subcontractors take control of delays and variation claims. It’s a big milestone for us to finally launch our product, but the industry hasn’t slowed down while we’ve been busy. From electric breakthroughs in motorsport to award-winning projects, hospital redevelopments, and tunnelling milestones, civil contractors continue to push forward across Australia.
⏳ This week’s edition should take about 5 minutes to read at an average pace.
Only got 30 seconds? Here’s the TLDR:

🚧 This Week in Australian Civil
🎉 We launched Delaysolve : Stronger, Faster Delay Documentation for Subcontractors
Last week, we launched Delaysolve, a new tool for civil subcontractors to track and manage delays on their projects and automatically generate dayworks dockets to send to clients.
With DelaySolve, any engineer can:
Log an on-site delay in under a minute
Auto-calculate labour, plant, and material costs
Attach photos, videos, and invoices as evidence
Generate dayworks dockets and variation claims your client can’t ignore
We’re opening early access to Delaysolve for 3 subcontractors teams who want to become design partners with us and want to track the true cost of delays on active Tier 1 or Tier 2 projects.
As a design partner, you’ll get:
Done-for-you onboarding — we’ll set up your roles, rates, and projects so your team can start fast
Direct influence on the roadmap — your feedback shapes how Delaysolve works on site
Grandfathered pricing for life — no future increases, all new features included
If your team is keen to adopt new technology and tired of leaving money on the table when delays hit, we’d like to work with you.

A sign of the future of rallying and civil? TCD Group’s Electric Assault entry recharges at sunset during Tarmac West 2025, demonstrating the potential of advanced EV technology.
⚡ TCD Group: Electric Assault at Tarmac West Rally 2025
TCD Group returned to the Tarmac West 2025 rally with its Electric Assault entry, pushing boundaries in electric motorsport and sustainable transport technology. The team placed first in the 4WD category and second overall, improving on last year’s third place finish. Key progress included enhanced battery management, improved thermal load control, and greater charging capacity through partner eLumina. TCD noted the event mirrors the same engineering challenges faced in electrifying remote fleets. The project also supports a longer-term sustainability goal of achieving a race powered entirely by 100% renewable energy.
💡 Australian Constructors Association: Innovation on the Agenda
At the Victorian Leaders’ Working Breakfast, the Australian Constructors Association reinforced its call to leave behind the mindset of “that’s how we’ve always done it.” Andrew Williams of the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority highlighted that on the Level Crossing Removal Project, contractors have generated 500 new ways of working, with 290 already implemented. Attendees explored how to embed innovative ideas as standard practice, helping to boost efficiency and delivery outcomes across civil projects. The ACA confirmed it will publish a summary of insights from the session to encourage wider industry adoption.
🏥 BKH Group: Nepean Hospital Redevelopment
BKH Group shared progress on the Nepean Hospital Redevelopment, working alongside CPB Contractors. The project has delivered over 1,500 m² of decking and concreting weekly, supported by systems including Ishebeck tables, Peri Rosett, and ACSA jump form. The company credited its site teams, office crew, and logistics yard for maintaining safe, efficient, and on-schedule delivery as Stage 1 transitions to Stage 2.

Heavy lifts, precision moves – a glimpse into the skill on display at the Liebherr Game of Cranes semi-finals in Australia, where operators battle for a place on the global stage.
🏗️ Liebherr-Australia: Game of Cranes Semi-Finals
Liebherr-Australia announced the five semi-finalists for the Game of Cranes competition, with operators set to compete in Adelaide for the chance to represent Australia in the global final in Europe. Competitors include:
• Craig Boniface – Universal Cranes
• David Romanous – Transformer Cranes
• Jess Tuck-Lee – Mudgee Cranes
• Joey Fisher – Johnson & Young Cranes
• Nick Sputore – Joyce Krane
The event highlights the expertise and precision of Australia’s crane operators, with the winner progressing to the international stage.
🏆 Tracc Civil: Consecutive Earth Awards Success
Tracc Civil’s Cassia Estate project for client Satterley Property Group won the 2025 Civil Contractors Federation WA Earth Award for Land Development. This marks the second consecutive year Tracc has taken out the award. The large-scale project spans Cassia Rise and Cassia Glades across Parmelia and Kwinana Town Centre, involving multiple stages to deliver essential land development and community infrastructure. The company acknowledged the Civil Contractors Federation WA for hosting the event and celebrated the recognition as part of its ongoing commitment to legacy-building in Western Australia.
🚇 John Holland: Delivering Sydney Metro Pyrmont Station
John Holland shared progress at the Sydney Metro West Pyrmont Station, a complex underground project being delivered with partners CPB Contractors and Ghella. Works involve navigating challenging geology and coordinating precision tunnelling in a dense urban environment. The team emphasised that every milestone reflects the combined effort of planners, engineers, supervisors and crews, whose work will ultimately deliver one of Sydney’s most transformative new transport hubs. The station is designed to connect communities, support future growth, and improve travel efficiency across the network.

📰 Headline to Watch: National “Skills for Net Zero” Strategy Unveiled
Infrastructure Australia has released its Skills for Net Zero strategy, a coordinated national workforce plan designed to prepare the infrastructure sector for decarbonisation. The plan highlights critical labour shortages across trades and technical roles that will be required to deliver projects aligned with Australia’s net-zero commitments. It calls for industry, government, and training providers to align on workforce planning, funding, and skills development.
Why it matters for you:
If you’re delivering civil projects in Australia, this is not abstract policy. Labour shortages are already biting across electrical, pipeline, and sustainable materials trades. Decarbonisation adds another layer of demand. The strategy means the government and industry will prioritise skilling pipelines, but the transition period will remain a high-risk zone for contractors. How you manage workforce supply now will directly affect your ability to bid, win, and deliver over the next decade.
What you can do now:
Map exposure: Identify which of your current and upcoming projects depend on trades highlighted in the strategy (electrical, renewables integration, advanced materials).
Secure partnerships: Establish relationships with training providers or apprenticeship schemes early. Being first in line matters when supply is constrained.
Lock talent pipelines: Consider long-term agreements with subcontractors or labour suppliers in areas most affected.
Bid with foresight: Factor potential labour scarcity into tender pricing and delivery schedules. A transparent buffer now is safer than scrambling mid-delivery.
Engage in consultation: Infrastructure Australia is actively taking industry feedback. Your input could shape policy levers that will affect your cost base.
🤝 That’s all folks!
